  Valley Residents’ Association

This summary was prepared following a meeting with Valley Residents’ Association on 3 March 2008. The group's secretary has confirmed that it is an accurate account of the meeting.

Valley Residents’ Association's views

The Association represents residents in Kirkby who live to the west of the M57.

They were anxious to establish that they did not feel that they had the authority to offer a view on behalf of all residents. There was no consensus.

One part of the group enthusiastically supported the proposal to regenerate the whole of the town centre subject to concerns being addressed about issues associated with the proposed application such as increased transport and traffic and anti-social behaviour.

Others present felt that the concerns raised were so great as to make the proposed development unacceptable. In addition, they expressed concern about the loss of green space, the effect on existing shops in the town centre and the effect that would have on competition and prices.

Although a small group attended this meeting, the opinions of those present mirrored two earlier meetings hosted by Knowsley Council's planning department, both of which were attended by a much larger audience.
