  Webster Park Residents’ Association

This summary was prepared following a meeting with Webster Park Residents’ Association on 22 February 2008. The group's chairman has confirmed that it is an accurate account of the meeting and supplied the answers in the Q&A section listed below.

Webster Park Residents’ Association's views

The group is in favour of regeneration but opposes the Tesco/Everton development and strongly opposes having a football stadium in the town.

They believe that Tesco regularly promises new amenities that fail to materialise once planning consent has been granted and that parking and traffic management arrangements will cause chaos in the town on match days and have history of flouting the planning laws once building/planning permission is granted.

They object to the loss of green space and are concerned that football fans could, on occasion, be ‘out of control’ and go on the rampage.

They believe that a number of sports facilities (ie football pitches and a running track) have been lost to accommodate the proposal

The group believes smaller shops will close if a Tesco superstore is located in the town and that a development on the proposed scale will exacerbate the town’s carbon footprint and increase the already high rates of asthma and cancer in the town

Health concerns were raised regarding unearthing of unknown wartime waste, which is currently located on the proposed football site. Click here to read Knowsley Council's response on this issue.

The group believes that anti-social behaviour should be addressed before bringing in other problems.
